According to a report from Sports Illustrated reporters Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (photo by @iMiaSanMia), Paul Wanner’s future at Bayern Munich could be on the wing – whether he likes it or not.
However, in order for Wanna to stay, the club may need to convince him by selling at least one of the trio of Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman:
If one of Sane/Koeman/Gnabry is sold and no big-name players like Florian Wirtz or Xavi Simons are signed, Paul Wanna could be back in action next summer. Return to Bayern and become a member of the team. Clubs including Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig showed interest in Wanna, but Bayern included him in their plans. Although he is not a typical winger and prefers to operate in a central position, Varner, who earns only around €2 million per year, will help the club save significant wages compared to the winger trio.
Wanner has the physical attributes and skills to play on the wing if he wishes. Given his creativity and nose for goal, this could be a very tempting option for the Bavarians.
